In Focus Workshop: Practical Glazing and Kiln Loading

In this half day workshop, we will discuss the application of glazes and how to achieve the best results from using dipped and pouring glazes. Working with the studio glazes, we will review the traits of each glaze, what is in glaze, achieving successful layering combinations and how to control the application. There will be time to discuss the purpose and use of oxides, engobes, underglazes and slips and importance of keeping sketchbooks and notes.

This is a rare opportunity to visit the kiln room to load your pieces into a glaze fire and discuss a glaze and bisque firing and how temperature affects the clay and glaze.

Students should bring up to 4 pieces each for the glaze application and firing and normal glazing weight and pay fees apply.

For attendees outside the studio, there is a firing charge of £6.00 per kilo.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

All of the tools, equipment, clay and decorating provided. You will have the opportunity to decorate your pieces with coloured slips and choice of glazes.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

Bring a small hand towel and apron and any additional tools you wish to use.

Lunch is not provided but there are several cafes and restaurants in the area. The beach is located directly across from the studio and if the weather is suitable is a perfect spot to have lunch and a swim in the sea.

Please ensure you can attend the workshop you have booked as we cannot offer refunds less than 14 days notice, unless we are able to fill your place with another student. Please get in touch and we will do our best.
