Slipware Workshop with Dylan Bowen
2 Day Workshop

Date: Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October 2025
Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm each day, including breaks (lunch not provided)

This workshop is suitable for those with some experience of working with clay (either hand building or wheel throwing). Ages 18+.

This two-day workshop with Dylan Bowen will introduce students to using various methods of simple hand building techniques with earthenware clay that Dylan uses as a starting point for his own work.

Dylan will demonstrate how he uses slip, mainly with slip trailers but other methods to create expressive and dynamic work on his plates and sculptural forms. The emphasis on both days is to work in the moment, embrace the unexpected and unforeseen and leave things and move on without over analysing the outcomes.

You can expect to make several pieces from earthenware clay, including plates and vases, that will be ready to collect 4-5 weeks after the session.

Included in the firing is up to 3kg of clay, additional firing costs is £4.00 per kilo for bisque and £8.00 for glaze firing.

Dylan Bowen:

Dylan is known for his expressive slipware work that is exhibited in galleries across the UK, including the Contemporary Ceramic Centre in London.  For Dylan, the making and decorating process blend together so that the spontaneity and energy invested in the creative process are embodied in the finished piece.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT:

All of the tools, equipment, clay and pigment will be provided. Included in the firing is up to 3kg of clay, additional firing costs is £4.00 per kilo for bisque and £8.00 for glaze firing.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU:

Bring a small hand towel and apron and any additional tools you wish to use.

Lunch is not provided but there are several cafes and restaurants in the area. The beach is located directly across from the studio and if the weather is suitable is a perfect spot to have lunch and a swim in the sea.

Please ensure you can attend the workshop you have booked as we cannot offer refunds less than 14 days notice, unless we are able to fill your place with another student. Please get in touch and we will do our best.
